Sexagenarian arrested for defiling minor in Ondo

A 62-year-old man named Imeje Mathew has been apprehended by officers of the Ondo State Police Command for luring a 12-year-old girl into a bush and sexually violating her.

DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the spokesperson for the Ondo State police command, disclosed the development in a statement obtained by Western Post.

In the statement, the spokesperson revealed that the incident occurred on February 28, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m. at Ehin Ala, Akure, where the suspect allegedly preyed on the minor after she visited his shop to charge her mother’s phone.

According to the police, the suspect tricked the girl into following him into a nearby bush under the pretence of offering assistance, where he forcefully defiled her.

The victim’s mother, Adebayo Sefunmi, went on to report the case on March 3, 2026, triggering an investigation by the Gender-Based Offences Unit.

According to reliable sources, the victim is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital, while the suspect is undergoing interrogation.

Reacting to the issue, the State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting women and children, warning that perpetrators of sexual and gender-based violence would face the full weight of the law.

While urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly, the police command stressed the need for timely intervention for the creation of a safer society for children.
