Shettima departs Abuja for Guinea inauguration, Davos economic forum

By Kunle Sanni –
Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja to represent President Bola Tinubu at the presidential inauguration of Guinea-Conakry’s leader, Mamadi Doumbouya, and to attend the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
Shettima is scheduled to attend President Doumbouya’s inauguration on Saturday, January 17, at the GLC Stadium, Nongo, Conakry, following Doumbouya’s election victory. His presence underscores Nigeria’s commitment to regional leadership and diplomatic engagement within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), particularly as Guinea transitions back to constitutional order after four years of political transition.
The visit is also expected to strengthen bilateral relations between Nigeria and Guinea, especially in the area of trade. Recent figures show that Nigerian exports to Guinea—mainly manufactured goods and agricultural products—have risen to about $3.29 million.

After the inauguration ceremony, the Vice President will proceed to Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, to participate in the World Economic Forum 2026, scheduled to hold from January 19 to January 23. The forum, themed “A Spirit of Dialogue,” will convene global leaders from government, business, civil society, and academia to address pressing international challenges through collaboration and innovation.
Discussions at the forum will centre on the impact of frontier technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, next-generation biotechnology, and advanced energy systems, with a focus on how these innovations can drive inclusive growth, job creation, skills development, and sustainable development across emerging markets.
During the Davos meetings, Vice President Shettima is expected to engage with world leaders and investors to highlight Nigeria’s economic reform agenda, investment opportunities, and Africa’s role in shaping a resilient and inclusive global economy.
The vice president is expected to return to Nigeria after concluding his engagements in Davos.
