Sokoto-Badagry highway to boost agriculture, economic activities in Kebbi — Idris

The federal government has said the proposed 1,000-kilometre Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway will create new opportunities for agriculture, trade and other economic activities across states along the corridor.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated this on Wednesday in Abuja when he received the Kebbi State Commissioner for Information, Yakubu Ahmed Birnin-Kebbi, and members of the state governor’s media team on a courtesy visit.

Idris said about 250 kilometres of the highway would traverse Kebbi State, describing the project as a major opportunity for the state to expand agricultural production and strengthen trade.

“The Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway is not just designed to link communities, states and cities together. It is also designed to provide an avenue for the advancement of economic activities in the corridor,” the minister said.

He added that the project would generate benefits beyond transportation, noting that about 63 dams were expected to be developed along the corridor.

According to him, the dams could support irrigation, agriculture, power generation and other productive activities in communities along the route.

Idris also praised the Kebbi State Government for its cooperation with the Federal Government in areas including agriculture, infrastructure and security.

He cited the state’s large-scale tomato farming as an example of the benefits that could be achieved through collaboration between federal and state authorities.
