Sports Council boss confident of Oyo’s readiness for Gateway Games

As the 22nd National Sports Festival kicks off today in Ogun State, Oyo State athletes are set for a strong showing, buoyed by high expectations and rigorous preparation.
Mr. Tunde Ajibike, General Manager of the Oyo State Sports Council, expressed confidence in the team’s chances while addressing journalists before the contingent departed the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Ibadan for Abeokuta on Friday.
The National Sports Festival, a biennial event showcasing Nigeria’s best sporting talent, runs from May 16 to 30, 2025, with Ogun State as host. Oyo State will compete in 32 sporting events, ranging from athletics to team sports, as it looks to build on its proud track record at previous editions.
Ajibike emphasized the athletes’ dedication and the comprehensive training programs implemented by the council, assuring that the team is prepared to perform at a high level.
“Our athletes are in top form, and we are poised to make Oyo State proud,” he said. “We’ve left no stone unturned in our preparations, and we’re confident the team will deliver outstanding results.”
The delegation’s departure from Ibadan marked the end of months of intensive training and planning, all aimed at achieving a strong position on the medal table.
The 22nd edition of the festival promises tough competition, with states across Nigeria vying for supremacy in various disciplines.
For Oyo State, the games represent an opportunity to reaffirm its status as a sporting powerhouse in Nigeria. As the athletes arrive in Ogun State, expectations are high for a successful outing and a solid medal haul.
