President Tinubu mourns victims of Kano sports tragedy

President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound grief over the tragic road accident involving members of the Kano State contingent returning from the recently concluded National Sports Festival in Ogun State.

Describing the incident as a “devastating blow to the nation,” President Tinubu extended his condolences to the government and people of Kano State, as well as to the families of the victims.

“This casts a shadow over the National Sports Festival—an event meant to showcase unity, talent, and national pride. The dedication and aspirations of the victims represent the resilient Nigerian spirit,” the President stated.

He pledged the Federal Government’s commitment to taking concrete steps to prevent future tragedies by improving transportation safety standards across the country.

The President also offered prayers for the repose of the deceased and strength for their grieving families.

Tinubu Orders National Emergency Response to Mokwa Flooding

In a separate development, President Tinubu has ordered the immediate activation of the National Emergency Response Centre following severe flooding in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State, which claimed lives and displaced several families.

“I extend heartfelt condolences to the affected families and the people of Niger State,” President Tinubu wrote on his official X (formerly Twitter) account late Friday.

Acting swiftly on the disaster report, the President directed search-and-rescue operations to begin immediately and mobilized relevant federal agencies to support local authorities. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has been tasked with delivering relief materials and temporary shelters to the flood-affected areas.
