Ebonyi governor orders sack of works commissioner
Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has ordered the immediate removal of the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam, from office.
The directive was contained in a public service announcement issued on Saturday and signed by the governor’s chief press secretary, Monday Uzor.
Nwifuru directed Mbam to immediately hand over all government property in his possession, including his official vehicle, to the secretary to the state government.
The outgoing commissioner was also directed to transfer the administrative responsibilities of the Ministry of Works to its permanent secretary pending further directives from the state government.
The statement said the governor remained committed to delivering effective governance and improving public infrastructure in the state.
However, the government did not disclose specific reasons for Mbam’s removal from office.
Mbam had earlier been suspended by Nwifuru in February 2026 alongside the Commissioner for Infrastructure Development for Concession, Engr. Ogbonnaya Obasi-Abara, over allegations of dereliction of duty.
