Shettima commissions 4,000-capacity garment factory, 11-storey revenue house in Kwara
Vice President Kashim Shettima on Wednesday commissioned a garment factory with the capacity to employ about 4,000 people and an 11-storey office complex for the Kwara State Revenue Service (KWRS) in Ilorin.
The projects were commissioned as part of activities marking the turbaning of Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as the first Sardauna of Ilorin by the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.
Speaking at the turbaning ceremony at the Emir’s Palace, Shettima commended AbdulRazaq for sustaining continuity in governance and described the new traditional title as a recognition of his service to the Ilorin Emirate.
The Vice President also recalled the governor’s late father, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Folorunsho AbdulRazaq, SAN, as Northern Nigeria’s first lawyer and the first Mutawalle of Ilorin, noting that the title remained in the family as a reflection of its longstanding relationship with the emirate.
He said the ceremony provided an opportunity to reflect on how legacies are passed from one generation to another.
“As Governor AbdulRazaq receives his turban, we remember those who preceded him, and we offer prayers for the generations who will encounter this occasion through the stories their elders preserve,” Shettima said.
The Vice President also spoke about his relationship with AbdulRazaq, saying their responsibilities bring them together regularly at the National Economic Council and other engagements involving the Federal Government and state governments.
He noted that AbdulRazaq, as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, participates in engagements with the Federal Government and development partners on issues affecting states.
