Super Eagles’ coach anticipates tough contest against Zimbabwe

Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, says his team will not have an easy task against Zimbabwe when both sides clash in a 2026 World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday. However, he remains focused on winning every game.
Speaking during Monday’s pre-match press conference, the former Malian national team coach said, “I talked to my players and told them I want to win every game. So, I’m focused on the next game, which is against Zimbabwe. After that, we can think about the next one. But for now, the Zimbabwe game is the most important for my team.”
Chelle expressed his happiness over the Super Eagles’ victory away to Rwanda.

“It was just one game, and we did our job. I was happy for my players and the country, but it’s just one step. After the game, I told them we need to stay focused on the second match, which is now the most important. I was proud of my players for their performance in Rwanda—it was very difficult, but they got the job done.
“On Sunday, we had a good training session, and now we need to get back on the pitch to prepare for tomorrow’s (Tuesday’s) game.”
The coach acknowledged Zimbabwe’s quality, stating, “It will not be easy because Zimbabwe has good players and a good coach with a solid project. We need to stay focused and do everything possible to win.”
Chelle also spoke on the impact that Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) players can have on the national team, saying, “I believe there are many players in the Nigerian league who can contribute to the team, but they need to work hard and understand how we play. That’s why I selected three players from the league—they have great potential for the future.”
