TICC accuses Oyetola of using police to target Accord leaders

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

The Imole Campaign Council has accused the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, of allegedly using the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to target and arrest leaders and grassroots mobilisers of the Accord Party ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election in Osun State.

The campaign council, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, alleged that Oyetola was behind the issuance of arrest warrants and the alleged crackdown on leaders of the party.

“Our intelligence confirms that Gboyega Oyetola, embittered by his 2022 loss, is rattled by the growing and unstoppable support for the Accord Party in Osun State, prompting the former Governor to remote-control the Inspector-General of Police to issue arbitrary arrest warrants and unleash a crackdown on leaders of the party.

“We condemn the brazen misuse of state power and federal security institutions by Gboyega Oyetola. Having lost touch with the electorate, and with the imminent defeat of his lackey candidate, the Minister is controlling the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to pursue a path of intimidation, harassment, and political persecution,” he said.

The council alleged that the latest arrest involved Hon. Mayowa Adejoorin, a serving commissioner, who it said was stripped naked by the police on Saturday on the orders of Oyetola.

It further alleged that Adejoorin was subjected to humiliating treatment during the arrest, claiming that he was ordered to remove his boxer shorts and singlet despite having committed no offence.

Olajengbesi said the Accord Party would not be intimidated, adding that no amount of state-sponsored harassment, unlawful arrests or political witch-hunts would deter the party.

The council also called on the international community, media organisations, civil society groups and local and international election observers to intervene and protect Osun State from what it described as attempts to subvert democracy and the will of the people.
