Tinubu celebrates resilience of African women, girls on International Day

First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has celebrated the strength and achievements of women and girls of African descent in a message marking the International Day of Women and Girls of African Descent.
In her statement on Friday, Senator Tinubu acknowledged the enduring challenges caused by historical and systemic barriers but commended African women and girls for their resilience and determination to overcome them.
“Today, I join millions of Nigerians as we commemorate the International Day of Women and Girls of African Descent, a day that honours the strength, resilience, and courage of African women and girls everywhere,” she said.
She praised their exceptional performance across various fields while maintaining cultural values and the enduring African spirit, often under difficult circumstances.
“You have all come a long way. We are proud of all your achievements as you keep the African spirit alive,” the First Lady added.
Senator Tinubu further applauded their vital roles in sustaining families and communities, recognizing their contributions as foundational to societal growth.
She reaffirmed her support for the continued advancement of women and girls of African descent and expressed optimism about their future.
“Long live women and girls of African descent,” she declared.
