Tinubu congratulates Rangers on winning record ninth NPFL title

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Rangers International FC on winning the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title, praising the club for its outstanding performance throughout the season.

Rangers clinched the league title with 68 points from 38 matches, finishing ahead of Rivers United to secure a record ninth league crown.

In a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the achievement as a proud moment for Nigerian football and commended the players, management and supporters of the Enugu-based club.

The President recalled Rangers’ dominance in Nigerian and African football during the 1970s and 1980s, highlighting the club’s run to the African Cup of Champions Clubs final in 1975 and its African Cup Winners’ Cup triumph in 1977.

Tinubu also praised Peter Mbah for supporting sports development in Enugu State, saying the club’s success reflects investments in youth and sports.

“As one of the oldest clubs in Nigeria, Rangers have produced some of the nation’s finest football players who went on to make the country proud on the global stage. I am proud of their achievement,” the President said.

Tinubu further commended Rivers United for their impressive campaign and good sportsmanship, while wishing both clubs success in next season’s CAF Champions League.
