‘Tinubu has set South West on path to transformation’ – Ooni of Ife

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the establishment of the South West Development Commission (SWDC), describing it as a landmark step toward the region’s transformation.
In a statement released by his Director of Media and Public Affairs, Otunba Moses Olafare, the monarch praised the President’s visionary leadership and expressed deep appreciation for the creation of the commission, which he said would address longstanding developmental gaps in the South West.
The Ooni also applauded the appointment of Dr. Charles ‘Diji Akinola as the Managing Director and CEO of the Commission, describing it as “a visionary choice and a historic turning point for the region’s developmental trajectory.” He highlighted Dr. Akinola’s sterling credentials and passionate commitment to both regional and national development.
Oba Ogunwusi further praised the appointment of Senator Olu Adetunmbi, a respected development expert, as Chairman of the Board, alongside other members, including Princess Nike Omoworare, Bolaji Ariyo, Joseph Olugbenga, Olumuyiwa Olabimtan, Adewinle Martins, Ibrahim Olaifa, Kabiru Lakwaya, Abdul Adamu (Rtd), Arinola Fagbemi, Ukoha Onyekwere, Howell Ihenacho, Olugbenga Olufehinti, Tele Ogunjobi, Funmilayo Tejuosho, Fatai Ibikunle, and Lateef Ajijola.
“These are round pegs in round holes,” the monarch noted, adding that the appointments reflect President Tinubu’s commitment to inclusive governance and sustainable development.
The Ooni expressed confidence in the commission’s ability to address key regional challenges, including infrastructure deficits, ecological degradation, security concerns, and economic revitalization. He called on all stakeholders in the region to support the commission in delivering on its mandate.
