President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s firm commitment to the welfare and operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Armed Forces, pledging continued investment in modern military equipment, intelligence, and personnel development.

Speaking at the grand finale of the 162nd Nigerian Army Day Celebration held at the Murtala Muhammed Square in Kaduna, the President—represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima—hailed the Nigerian Army’s pivotal role in defending the nation’s sovereignty and confronting growing security challenges.

“We will continue to invest in modern equipment, in intelligence, and in the human capital that drives your effectiveness. This is not a favour. It is a duty owed to those who defend us,” Tinubu said.

He praised the Army’s long-standing legacy of sacrifice and resilience, noting that its contributions over the past 162 years have not only shaped Nigeria’s history but also preserved its unity.

Addressing the threats of terrorism, banditry, insurgency, and separatist movements, the President described them as existential risks and charged the military to respond with resolve and unity.

“You have my full authorization and the trust of the Nigerian people to confront and defeat those who seek to undermine our nation,” Tinubu declared. “These evils do not discriminate by tribe or faith. Our response must be united, firm, and uncompromising.”

The President also commended the Army’s commitment to the “Soldier First” initiative, which prioritizes the welfare, morale, and capacity of individual personnel as a foundation for broader military reforms.

Earlier in his remarks, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, reflected on the Nigerian Army’s transformation over the decades, describing today’s force as resilient, modernised, and prepared to counter emerging threats. He urged field commanders to remain bold and strategic in their operations.
