‘Tinubu won decisively’: APC replies Obi over 2023 election claim

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has criticised Peter Obi over his claim that he won the 2023 presidential election, describing the former Labour Party candidate’s remarks as baseless.
The council’s spokesman, Dele Alake, in a statement on Friday, said Obi’s assertion that he won the election despite admitting he had no evidence to support the claim was troubling.
Obi, who came third in the 2023 presidential election, reportedly made the remarks during an interview with the BBC.
“I don’t like going back to the past. I won the last election. There’s no evidence, but I won the election. Everything is not based on evidence,” Obi was quoted as saying.
Reacting, Alake said the statement demonstrated a disregard for facts and evidence, adding that it was unbecoming of someone aspiring to lead the country.
“For a candidate who placed a distant third in the presidential poll to persistently insist he won — without evidence and contrary to all official records — reflects a deep and troubling disconnection from reality and absolute disregard for facts and truth,” he said.
The APC spokesman maintained that President Bola Tinubu won the 2023 presidential election, noting that the Independent National Electoral Commission declared him the winner and that the election tribunal and Supreme Court affirmed the result.
Alake also defended Tinubu’s administration, saying it had introduced reforms aimed at stabilising the economy, expanding infrastructure, supporting businesses and young people, and improving education and healthcare.
