A board member of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Engr. Nurudeen Adeyemi, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s financial support initiative for middle-class Nigerian students through the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing it as laudable.

Adeyemi noted that Tinubu’s reforms in the education sector—particularly in tertiary education—are being implemented through TETFund with a focus on innovative and impactful ideas.

He made these remarks while speaking at the 5th Strategic Media Stakeholders’ Seminar, organized by the Sobi FM Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council, in collaboration with the Nigeria Media Parliament. The event, themed “The Role of TETFund in Repositioning Nigeria’s Higher Education,” was held on Friday in Ilorin.

Adeyemi disclosed that TETFund is set to implement various projects, including skills acquisition programs and mechanized farming initiatives utilizing arable lands within universities across the country.

He also revealed plans to identify and complete several abandoned projects in higher institutions to ensure their proper use and maximize investment in infrastructure.

Addressing the need to strengthen teacher training, Adeyemi said the agency is working on a scheme to provide financial support to student-teachers while in training. According to him, this initiative will help address the issue of underqualified teachers in the education system.

On the issue of brain drain in the health sector, Adeyemi said TETFund will be adopting a “Health is Wealth” concept. This strategy aims to increase the supply of medical professionals by committing substantial funding and doubling the intake of students in medical programs to meet growing healthcare demands.

Other initiatives outlined by the agency include the provision of alternative power sources for universities to ensure uninterrupted academic activities, and entrepreneurship training programs to equip Nigerian youths with modern skills that will help reduce internet fraud and enhance economic productivity.
