UK appoints Vicky Seymour Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria
The United Kingdom Government has appointed Ms. Vicky Seymour as its new Deputy High Commissioner in Abuja, succeeding Mrs. Gill Lever OBE, who completed her diplomatic assignment in June 2026.
The UK High Commission announced the appointment in a statement on Thursday, noting that Seymour has assumed office and will help strengthen the longstanding partnership between the United Kingdom and Nigeria.
The statement read: “Join us in welcoming @VickySeymourUK, the new British Deputy High Commissioner to Abuja. We’re excited to have Vicky in Abuja as she begins this new chapter strengthening the #UKNGPartnership.”
According to the High Commission, Seymour will support cooperation between both countries in key areas, including economic growth, security, migration, development, international partnerships, and people-to-people relations.
Seymour brings more than 20 years of experience in diplomacy, international development, and public service. Before her appointment, she served as Head of the East Africa Department at the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), a position she held from 2023.
She previously led the FCDO’s Trade Diplomacy Department and served as Development Director in Mozambique.
Her diplomatic career also includes senior leadership roles in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Afghanistan, where she worked on a wide range of development and foreign policy initiatives.
In addition to her diplomatic postings, Seymour has extensive experience in climate change, security, and economic development. Earlier in her career, she worked in the not-for-profit sector, focusing on migration-related issues.
