The management of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has announced the death of a 400-level Criminology and Security Studies student, Miss Grace Osunlakin, and subsequently ordered the indefinite closure of its Ifetedo Campus.

The institution disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by its Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, describing the incident as a painful loss that has thrown the university community into mourning.

According to the statement, Osunlakin died on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, prompting the university management to take measures aimed at addressing concerns arising from the incident.

“The decision to close the campus indefinitely was taken after careful consideration of the circumstances surrounding the incident, with the aim of allowing emotions to settle among students and creating room for a comprehensive assessment of healthcare facilities, medical personnel and water supply systems within the Ifetedo Campus”.

The management explained that the measure forms part of broader efforts to address longstanding challenges associated with the campus and to ensure the safety, welfare and well-being of all students and staff.

The university reassured members of the public that it remains committed to conducting a thorough review of the situation and implementing necessary measures to prevent a recurrence.

“May Almighty God grant the family of the deceased, the students and the entire university community the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement added.

The university urged all students, parents and stakeholders to remain calm and cooperative as efforts are intensified to resolve the issues and restore normalcy.
