Nnamdi Azikiwe University has appointed Stanley Uzochukwu as the chairman of its Advancement Management Board.

Uzochukwu, a Harvard-trained executive and chairman/chief executive officer of Stanel Group, as well as the Delborough Lagos, was confirmed for the role in a move aimed at strengthening the institution’s development drive.

The new chairman is reputed for his contributions to business innovation, leadership and institutional growth. Before his latest appointment, he served on the board of directors of the university’s business school, a position he assumed in October 2021.

Beyond the Awka-based institution, Uzochukwu has held several strategic roles across corporate and academic boards, including being the youngest member on the board of Igbinedion University, underscoring his rising profile in Nigeria’s private sector and education space.

Speaking on his new role, he emphasised the need for purposeful leadership in building enduring institutions. “Great institutions are not sustained by history alone; they are driven by intentional people,” he said, adding that he would bring strategic thinking, partnerships and a strong commitment to excellence.

At the inauguration held at the university’s Business School Hall, the Vice-Chancellor, Ugochukwu Anyaehie, expressed optimism about the board’s capacity to deliver on its mandate, noting that the university would benefit from Uzochukwu’s experience and leadership, particularly in advancing its developmental agenda and expanding its global outlook.

The appointment, according to the university, forms part of ongoing efforts to reposition the institution for sustained growth and enhance its relevance on the global academic stage.
