Reverse engineering will help Nigeria produce vehicle components locally – NADDC

Director-General, National Automotive Design and Development Council, NADDC, Mr Oluwemimo Osanipin, has said that the use of reverse engineering would help the country to start producing vehicle components locally.

Osanipin stated this at Asaba during NADDC’s capacity building training on automotive components design and development in collaboration with Solidworks Corporation.

He noted that  technology has changed the way business was being done, saying that automotive engineers need to respond to it accordingly in order to develop themselves.

He said: ‘’We need to start thinking of reverse engineering. We have a lot of parts that make up a vehicle and if you only assemble these parts it means our contribution to vehicle building is very minimal.

‘’If we can master the techniques of reverse engineering we will be able to produce some of these components locally because the economy of vehicle components is higher and has more multiplying effect than manufacturing the vehicle itself.

“If you buy a vehicle, you will use it for a period of time but you will continue changing some parts. That is where reverse technology comes in.”

Earlier, the Director Research, Design and Development Department, NADDC, Dr. Fidelis Achiv, said that the essence of the training was to enhance components parts development and manufacturing in the Nigeria automotive industry.

He mentioned that in order to add value to the Nigerian economy, there was a need for a paradigm shift where engineers could locally develop, design and manufacture vehicle components.
