‘We’ll challenge Appeal Court ruling at Supreme Court,’ — Turaki-led PDP says

The national working committee (NWC) of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Kabiru Turaki, has vowed to challenge a recent judgment of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria at the Supreme Court of Nigeria, describing the ruling as a temporary setback in its ongoing internal leadership dispute.
In a statement issued on Monday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the PDP said the appellate court upheld earlier decisions of the Federal High Court of Nigeria which affected the status of some party officials.
The Court of Appeal panel, led by Mohammed Ambi-Usi Danjuma, affirmed the suspension of the party’s National Legal Adviser and, by extension, other officials including the National Secretary and National Organising Secretary.
According to the party, the appellate court also upheld earlier judgments delivered by Justices Omotosho and Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja. In addition, the appeal challenging interlocutory orders issued by Justice Abdulmalik was dismissed.
The PDP expressed concern that implementing the judgment could cause hardship for its members nationwide.
“As we consult with critical organs of the party on the way forward, we have instructed our lawyers to immediately take steps to appeal to the Supreme Court, which is the apex court in the land,” the statement said.
The party said it is hopeful the Supreme Court will expedite the case and provide a final resolution in the interest of democracy.
The PDP leadership also called on its members to remain steadfast amid the ongoing legal battle.
