Western Post appoints new editor as Raphael takes over from Bilau

Western Post, a South-west Nigeria-centric newspaper, has appointed Mr. Innocent Raphael as its new editor.
Raphael replaces Mr. Olaolu Bilau who stepped down as editor in January this year.
The appointment, which takes effect from July 1, 2026, was conveyed in a letter dated June 26 and signed by the newspaper’s Managing Editor, Mr. Akin Akinremi.
According to the letter, the appointment followed Raphael’s impressive performance as acting editor and also recognised his hard work and professionalism since joining the organisation.
Raphael began his journalism career in 2019 as a reporter with Nigerian NewsDirect after years of pursuing creative writing as a novelist and scriptwriter, a passion he continues to nurture.
Between 2018 and 2020, he also contributed articles to Opera News.
He joined Western Post in March 2024 as a reporter and subsequently rose through the ranks to become sub-editor, news editor and acting editor, a position he assumed in January 2026.
Raphael holds a Higher National Diploma in Public Administration from Kogi State Polytechnic and a Diploma in Computer Studies from Maxwell Institute of Information Technology (MIIT), an affiliate of the University of Jos.
He has also undertaken courses in journalism and attended several conferences and seminars on online publishing.
A committed Christian, Raphael is passionate about sharing the gospel and continues to write works of fiction alongside his journalism career. He is 30 years old.
Established to report socio-political, cultural and economic developments across Nigeria, with a special focus on the South-West, Western Post said the appointment is a testament to its commitment to strengthening the newspaper’s editorial integrity.
