Your appointment well deserved – Sokoto Governor tells Corps Marshal Mohammed

The Governor of Sokoto State, Dr Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has congratulated the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed on his appointment, describing it as well deserved.
The Governor made the declaration at the Government House while receiving the Corps Marshal who was on courtesy visit to the Governor.
According to the Governor, the display of high sense of responsibility, accountability and transparency which has been the hallmarks of the FRSC Management under the management of Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed since his appointment showed that the action of Mr President in appointing him was not misplaced.
He restated his commitment to supporting the FRSC, saying he will continue to work hard to ensure that citizens of the state can move smoothly and safely on the roads through massive construction and rehabilitation of township and rural roads.
The Governor also assured the Corps Marshal that the state government will work hard to ensure that its citizens can fill all the slots meant for them in the staffing process of the Corps.
“We have seen the transparency, accountability and fairness that you have been exhibiting since your appointment and, I want to assure you that we will remain in partnership with you in our commitment to making the roads safer for all travellers in the state,” he stated.
The Governor warned drivers against speeding, overloading and route violation which he said have been responsible for most of the road traffic crashes that occured in the state.
He further reassured the Corps Marshal that the state is prepared to host any program organized by the FRSC towards creating public awareness on issues of road safety.
Earlier in his remarks, the Corps Marshal expressed appreciation to the Governor for the warm reception accorded him and his entourage since arriving the state.
He stated that he was in the state as part of his familiarization tour to states and to thank the various stakeholders for their unwavering support for the FRSC in its campaigns over the years.
The Corps Marshal also praised the pro-road safety stance of the Governor as evidenced by the cordial relationship between the FRSC and the government and good people of the state and commended him for his positive disposition towards the operations of the Corps in the State.
He recalled the various logistics and moral support of the Governor to the FRSC with particular reference to the donation of a new patrol vehicle to the command in the state.
Corps Marshal Shehu who enumerated some measures that he has taken to address issues of road traffic management in the state since his assumption of office, disclosed that having started his career in the FRSC in the state as a young officer, he will continue to identify with the state and see it as his second home.
He also appealed to the Governor to assist in creating public awareness on tanker crashes and the implications of people rushing to scoop spilled fuel whenever a crash occurred.
This he said has been responsible for the enormous loss of lives and property in the fatal incidents that occured in three states between last year and early this year.
On the inauguration of the State Road Safety Advisory Council which forms part of the Nigeria Road Safety Strategy programs as required by the United Nations declaration of 2021-2030 as decade of Action For Road Safety, the Corps Marshal appealed to the Governor to further support its inauguration in the state.
He said it will make it possible for everyone to collectively get involved in the campaign for safer road environment in the country.
