‘Your support honours my father’ — Yusuf Buhari thanks President Tinubu

By Kunle Sanni –
Yusuf Buhari, son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other political leaders for their support and solidarity during his father’s illness, passing, and burial.
Speaking at a special Federal Executive Council (FEC) session held in Abuja on Thursday in honour of the late leader, Yusuf said the overwhelming national support reflected the deep respect Nigerians had for his father beyond politics.
“It has shown that he was regarded as far more than a politician — he was seen as a friend and a father,” Yusuf said.
He commended President Tinubu and members of the FEC for the care shown throughout the final rites, as well as the dignified burial accorded to the former president in Daura, Katsina State.
Yusuf also extended appreciation to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and all members of the National Assembly for their tributes and participation in the state burial.
“Your visits, calls, and prayers symbolise a great honour to the memory of our late father, and we’re sincerely grateful for all the support and solidarity extended to the family,” he added.
The late Muhammadu Buhari, who died on July 13, 2025, in London after a prolonged illness, served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as a two-term civilian president from 2015 to 2023.
