The results of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, released by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, has revealed that 77% of the 1,842,464 candidates scored below 200.
Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the Board’s Registrar, provided a detailed breakdown, indicating that 8,401 candidates scored 300 and above, 77,070 scored 250 and above, 439,974 scored 200 and above, and a significant majority, 1,402,490, scored below 200.
The Board is slated to announce the minimum benchmark for admissions for the 2024/2025 academic session during an upcoming policy meeting.
Historically, admission benchmarks for universities have typically ranged between 180 to 200 over the years.
Oloyede further outlined two options for candidates to accept or reject admission offers: either by sending ACCEPT/REJECT to 55019/66019 from their dedicated phone lines or by utilizing their fingerprint (biometric) at an accredited CBT center or any JAMB Office, including program changes.
According to him, these new methods aim to safeguard candidate information and maintain the integrity of the admission process.
He added that the candidate’s registered phone (SIM) holds increased importance with this approach, as it is now utilized for more sensitive operations.
“Discussions are underway with the NCC regarding dedicated student SIMs with restricted services,” he stated.
