UPDATED! Tinubu approves appointments to governing councils of federal tertiary institutions

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of new members to the governing councils of federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the country.

The appointments, announced on Tuesday, cover a broad range of both newly established and existing federal institutions. They are part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen governance and leadership in Nigeria’s higher education sector.

Among the appointees are Hon. Chidi Nwogu (African Aviation and Aerospace University, Abuja), Dr. Folashade Mulikat Kareem (University of Jos, Plateau State), and Dipe Olusina Adeniyi (Federal University of Technology, Ikot-Abasi, Akwa Ibom State).

Other notable appointments include Hon. Mayegun Yomi (Federal University of Agriculture, Zuru, Kebbi State), Dr. Francis Ogbise (Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State), Hon. Usman Balkore (Federal College of Education [Technical], Ekiadolor, Edo State), and Hon. Goodluck Opiah (Federal College of Education, Odugbo, Benue State).

The appointments reflect a nationwide spread, ensuring equitable representation across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

According to a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the appointments take immediate effect.

The move is part of broader government reforms aimed at revitalizing the education sector and ensuring that institutions are equipped to provide quality education and research.

Federal University, Wukari, Taraba State – Dr. Olusegun Ategbole

Federal Polytechnic, Bali, Taraba State – Hon. Abdullahi Abubakar (At Ningi)

Federal College of Education, Omoku, Rivers State – Hon. Bassey Etim, Hon. Chris Eta, Hon. Shuaib Yahaya

Federal College of Education (Technical), Keana, Nasarawa State – Hon. Yusuf Dikko

A full list of all 36 institutions and their respective governing council members is expected to be published by the Federal Ministry of Education.
