FG seeks global partnerships to tackle housing deficit, says Minister

The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, has emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships and foreign investment in addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit.
Ata made this known during a meeting with a delegation from Allen Le and Partners International Investment Consulting Joint Company, held on Tuesday in Abuja. The six-member team, led by Allen Ke Nam of SV-NED Incorporated, visited the Ministry to express interest in collaborating with the Nigerian government on affordable housing projects.
“The primary mandate of the ministry is to provide mass housing for Nigerians,” Ata said, noting that the government welcomes potential collaborations with international partners in pursuit of this objective.
He highlighted the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates initiative as a flagship housing programme under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. The initiative includes the construction of 3,000 housing units each in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano, as well as 250 units in each of the 36 states.
“We are also targeting 77,400 social housing units—100 in each of the 774 local government areas,” the minister added. “Thirty percent of these will be allocated to low-income Nigerians.”
Ata invited the visiting firm to submit a formal proposal outlining specific areas of collaboration, land needs, and construction interests.
The delegation leader, Allen Ke Nam, said the company is eager to invest in Nigeria’s housing sector and introduce innovative construction techniques. He assured that the partnership would boost job creation and skills development in local communities.
Also speaking at the meeting, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, expressed confidence in the collaboration, assuring the delegation of the Ministry’s support in driving affordable housing development.
