43 Ondo residents receive N49m for medical bills

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has released N49 million to settle the medical bills of 43 residents suffering from ailments requiring expensive treatment.

The money was disbursed in Akure on Friday as part of the state government’s intervention to assist residents who cannot afford the cost of their medical care.

Represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Banji Ajaka, Aiyedatiwa said the number of beneficiaries increased from 33 in 2025 to 43 this year, while the financial assistance rose from N39 million to N49 million.

According to the governor, the intervention was neither politically nor ethnically motivated, stressing that it was aimed at saving the lives of residents confronted with serious health conditions and financial difficulties.

He explained that applicants were required to provide a medical report and estimated treatment cost from their doctors before their cases were subjected to verification by a medical inquiry board.

Aiyedatiwa said the process was thorough and transparent, adding that beneficiaries did not need to know anyone in government to access the assistance.

The governor further urged the beneficiaries to use the money strictly for their treatment and advised residents to enrol in the Ondo State Contributory Health Commission for sustainable access to healthcare.

In their remarks, two beneficiaries, Elder Henry Ojagbonmi and Mrs. Iyabode Bolajoko, thanked the governor for the intervention, saying it would help end the hardship and pain they had endured. They promised to use the funds for their medical treatment.
