Ondo varsity mourns former acting VC, Prof Awobuluyi

Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, has mourned the death of a former Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Oladele Awobuluyi.

Awobuluyi died on Thursday, August 6, 2026, prompting the university management to extend its condolences to his family.

In a statement, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tomola Obamuyi, described the deceased as a principled academic and visionary administrator whose contributions helped shape the university during its formative years.

Awobuluyi served as the institution’s Acting Vice-Chancellor from June 2009 to January 2010, during which Obamuyi said he introduced measures that strengthened academic and administrative standards.

The vice-chancellor also recalled Awobuluyi’s contributions to the development of the university’s Department of Linguistics, describing him as an accomplished scholar whose work earned recognition beyond Nigeria.

Obamuyi said the university community had lost an astute administrator, distinguished scholar and influential figure whose contributions to the development of its Linguistics Department remained significant.

He added that Awobuluyi continued to contribute to the institution’s development after his retirement, noting that his counsel and experience remained valuable to the university.

The vice-chancellor expressed solidarity with the deceased’s family and prayed for the repose of Awobuluyi’s soul, as well as strength for his relatives to cope with the loss.
