Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has honoured the late former governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, describing him as a visionary leader whose impact on governance remains enduring.
Aiyedatiwa, in a statement issued in Akure on Saturday to mark the second anniversary of Akeredolu’s death, said the former governor’s leadership style continues to inspire public service in the state.
He recalled that Akeredolu was a strong proponent of state policing and played a leading role in the establishment of the South-West Security Network, Amotekun Corps, to tackle insecurity in the region.
According to the governor, the late leader’s security initiatives reshaped subnational security thinking and helped advance national discussions on decentralised and intelligence-driven policing.
Aiyedatiwa also reflected on their long political relationship, noting that Akeredolu placed great value on mentorship, leadership development and orderly succession while in office.
He said Akeredolu’s guidance and trust significantly shaped his own approach to leadership and commitment to public service.
The governor pledged that the state would continue to uphold Akeredolu’s ideals of justice, equity and unity, urging residents to draw inspiration from his courage and principled leadership.
