Ekiti police arrest 3,490 suspects as crime rate drops in 2025

The Ekiti State Police Command says it recorded a significant drop in crime in 2025, with 3,490 suspects arrested for various offences across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, said all the suspects were investigated and prosecuted, noting that the efforts of the command contributed to a safer and more peaceful Ekiti during the year under review.

Eribo disclosed that crime figures in 2025 were lower than those recorded in 2024, with notable reductions in cases of murder, kidnapping, rape, armed robbery, cultism, housebreaking and attempted murder.

He made the disclosure on Tuesday during a press briefing in Ado-Ekiti, where he reviewed the command’s performance for 2025 and outlined security priorities for 2026.

The police boss also decorated four officers recently promoted from the rank of Superintendent of Police to Chief Superintendent of Police. They are Adeniran Akinwumi, Ofanson Vincent, Ogunleye Kehinde and Falade Sesan Reuben.

Highlighting major breakthroughs, Eribo said operatives arrested three suspects in Ado-Ekiti in November while they were allegedly planning coordinated attacks on banks within the state, adding that one of them had links to past robbery incidents and a previous prison escape.

He attributed Ekiti’s relative security to cooperation among security agencies, community leaders and residents, assuring that the command would intensify patrols, raids and intelligence-led operations to further reduce crime in 2026.
