Tinubu directs security chiefs to hunt Jos killers, promises 5,000 CCTVs to aid law enforcement

President Bola Tinubu has directed security chiefs to investigate and bring to justice those responsible for the recent killings in Jos.
Speaking during a brief visit to Jos on Thursday, Tinubu charged the Inspector General of Police, the Chief of Army Staff, and the Minister of Defence to “unearth and find the killers,” emphasising the administration’s commitment to restoring peace.
Tinubu also highlighted the need for preventive measures, announcing plans to install over 5,000 cameras to strengthen law enforcement’s ability to quickly identify and apprehend offenders.
“We are going to install immediately a network of camera that will help the law enforcement agencies to identify the troublemakers instantly,” he said.
The visit follows a spate of violent attacks in Jos and surrounding communities in Plateau State, where armed groups killed dozens and displaced many residents.
Addressing victims’ families, Tinubu acknowledged their grief, saying, “There is nothing I can give you, whether money in billions, but console you and promise you that this experience will not repeat itself… It is only God who can give you joy and comfort. No amount of money can pay all of you.”
He assured that the government would provide support, adding, “Whatever we do to give them minimum comfort, we will.”
Recalling his earlier political experiences in Jos, Tinubu urged citizens and leaders to work together for unity and development.
“We must break together the shackles of violence, shackles of ignorance, shackles of poverty, shackles of hopelessness,” he said, adding that his administration is focused on inclusiveness and prosperity rather than consoling victims after avoidable violence.
