Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed sympathy with families of the schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of the state, assuring that efforts are ongoing to secure their release.
Makinde, in a message marking this year’s Eid-al-Adha and National Children’s Day, said his thoughts were with the affected families who are currently awaiting the return of their loved ones.
The incident occurred on May 15 when suspected terrorists invaded three schools in Oriire LGA, abducting dozens of pupils, including toddlers, and teachers.
During the attack, a teacher, Adesiyan Adegboye, was killed, while another, Michael Oyedokun, was reportedly beheaded in captivity, sparking widespread outrage.
In his remarks, the governor assured that the state government is working with security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the abductees and restore peace to affected communities.
As of press time, reports indicated that the abductors have opened communication with government representatives, though details of the negotiations remain unclear.
