The Osun State Police Command has arrested a suspected hoodlum, Adedeji Opeyemi, following a shooting incident in the Oke-Ijetu area of Osogbo that left three security operatives with gunshot injuries.

Briefing journalists on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, also announced the arrest of three suspected motorcycle robbers and two suspected political thugs in separate operations across the state.

Ojelabi said the command received a distress call at about 5:30 p.m. on July 20 that hoodlums were shooting sporadically in the Oke-Ijetu area. He said operatives deployed to the scene came under attack from the suspects, believed to be members of a faction led by one Wakili Alowonle.

He said Opeyemi was arrested during the operation and is assisting investigators in tracking other members of the group still at large. Six expended cartridges, four vehicles, four motorcycles, military camouflage and criminal charms were recovered.

According to him, intelligence-led investigations led to the recovery of the motorcycle in Modakeke and the arrest of the suspects, including the alleged receiver in Ondo town, Ondo State.

Ojelabi added that two suspected political thugs, Alawode Ridwan and Ajibade Ahmed, were arrested on July 16 for allegedly causing mayhem in the Amadia area of Osogbo, while Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible information.
