In Gambia, Governor Eno hails FG’s security measures, showcases Akwa Ibom achievements

Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has commended the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture while showcasing his administration’s achievements in infrastructure, healthcare and investment at the 19th Security Watch Africa Conference and Awards in Banjul, The Gambia.
Governor Eno, represented by his deputy, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, received the African Leader in People-Centric Governance Award, while Gambian President Adama Barrow was also honoured for his contributions to governance, security and sustainable development.
In a keynote address delivered on his behalf, Eno praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture through collaboration with the Armed Forces and other security agencies. He also called for greater regional cooperation to tackle emerging security threats, stressing that security, inclusive leadership and people-centred governance are critical to Africa’s sustainable development.

The governor said the true measure of governance lies in improving the welfare of citizens, dedicating the award to the people of Akwa Ibom. He added that Nigeria’s security challenges were not unique and could be addressed through stronger partnerships, intelligence sharing and coordinated responses among African nations.
Showcasing his administration’s achievements under the ARISE Agenda, Eno said Akwa Ibom had constructed over 1,346 kilometres of roads and bridges, established the Ibom Model Farm, commissioned the 350-bed Ibom International Hospital, enrolled more than 300,000 residents in the State Health Insurance Scheme and begun building over 455 solar-powered Compassionate Homes for vulnerable citizens.
He also highlighted major investment projects, including the ARISE Palm Resort, International Convention Centre, remodelling of Ibom International Hotel, expansion of Ibom Air’s regional operations and the Ibom Deep Seaport. “From land through our extensive road network, to air through Ibom Air, and to sea through the Ibom Deep Seaport, Akwa Ibom is ready to partner with the world,” he said.
On security, Eno said his administration had strengthened internal security through the creation of the Ministry of Internal Security and Waterways, the establishment of the Ibom Community Watch, integration of 2,272 Village Youth Presidents into the state’s security architecture and the construction of a Security Command and Control Centre. He also reiterated his support for state police and urged citizens to provide timely information to security agencies.
International Coordinator of Security Watch Africa, Patrick Agbambu, said Eno was honoured for his people-centred leadership, while the governor commended the organisers for promoting dialogue on continental security. He also invited investors to explore opportunities in Akwa Ibom, assuring them of a secure business environment, modern infrastructure and investor-friendly policies.
