Uzodimma remains our candidate, Imo APC insists after court ruling
The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has insisted that Governor Hope Uzodimma remains its candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District election, vowing to challenge a Federal High Court judgment recognising former Governor Rochas Okorocha as the party’s candidate.
In a statement issued by its state publicity secretary, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, the party said it would take immediate legal action to set aside the judgment.
The APC described the ruling as a temporary distraction, insisting that Uzodimma emerged through a legitimate primary election that was duly monitored and that his name was subsequently submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The party maintained that Okorocha did not emerge as its candidate at any point during the primary election, alleging that the court was misled.
“Imo APC will take legal action over Imo West Senatorial candidacy. Governor Hope Uzodimma remains the candidate. Okorocha cannot and will not be allowed to fly our flag for Imo West,” the statement said.
The party urged its supporters, stakeholders and members in Orlu zone to remain calm, law-abiding and undistracted by the development.
It added that its legal team was already working to appeal the judgment and secure Uzodimma’s reinstatement as its candidate.
The Federal High Court had ordered INEC to publish Okorocha’s name as the APC’s candidate for Imo West, effectively displacing Uzodimma ahead of the January 16, 2027, senatorial election.
