INEC opens online access to preliminary voter register for 2027 polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has made the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general election available online following concerns raised by Nigerians and other stakeholders over its accessibility.
The commission said the register could be accessed through its online platform, display.inecnigeria.org, alongside the physical display earlier conducted nationwide.
Mohammed Kudu Haruna, chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), disclosed this in a statement on Monday, October 26, 2026.
According to the statement, INEC conducted the physical display of the preliminary register at Registration Areas across the country from October 9 to 15, in line with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026.
The exercise allowed registered voters to inspect their particulars and submit claims and objections as prescribed by law.
The commission said it had taken note of concerns expressed by Nigerians and other stakeholders regarding the need to make the register accessible online.
“Accordingly, and in furtherance of its commitment to transparency, accessibility and public confidence in the electoral process, the Commission has decided to make available on its online platform display.inecnigeria.org the same Preliminary Register of Voters earlier displayed at the Registration Areas,” the statement said.
INEC explained that the online publication was an additional measure intended to give more Nigerians access to the register.
