Tope Alabi demands apology from Pastor Tayo Kumuyi, threatens legal action

By Damilola Akinwale –

Gospel singer Tope Alabi has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to Canada-based cleric Tayo Kumuyi, also known as Pastor Tayo Ministries, demanding an apology and retraction of claims linking her to the death of fellow gospel musician Toluwanisings, or face legal action.

The development followed a public notice issued by Alabi’s lawyers on Friday, warning the cleric and other members of the public to desist from making defamatory claims against the singer. However, Pastor Tayo later appeared in another live video, insisting she would not back down from the case, before eventually issuing a disclaimer denying the image in the alleged defamatory post.

Reacting to the disclaimer, Alabi, through her legal team, demanded that the cleric delete the posts, issue a public apology and pin it to her Facebook page for 14 days. The singer warned that failure to comply would result in legal action and reports to Meta and law enforcement agencies.

In a cease-and-desist letter dated October 24, 2026, Alabi’s lawyers, Oakmount Legal Practitioners, demanded that Kumuyi, who operates the Facebook page Pastor Tayo Ministries, remove the posts, retract the claims and issue a public apology.

The lawyers alleged that Kumuyi published a series of posts between October 20 and 24 accusing Alabi of murder and ritual killing and linking her to the deaths of Toluwanisings and other gospel ministers. They described the claims as false and unsupported by evidence.

In her defence, the solicitors said Alabi had publicly and privately mourned Toluwanisings and had no involvement in his death. They added that presenting the allegations as spiritual messages would not shield the publisher from liability and that being based in Canada would not prevent legal action, as the posts had reached a Nigerian audience.

According to the letter, a subsequent post on the page directed at the singer read: “Tope Alabi, no letter will save you from my hand”. The lawyers said the post would be used as evidence.

Alabi shared the letter on her social media page on Saturday and tagged the Nigeria Police Force. As of the time of filing this report, there was no visible response from the Pastor Tayo Ministries page, and the filing of a lawsuit had not been confirmed.
