No deal with APC on Senate, Assembly seats, says Adeleke
By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has emphasised that his political alliance with the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections does not include any agreement to share National Assembly, State Assembly or local government positions.
Adeleke made the clarification on Wednesday amid social media reports alleging that his understanding with the Presidency included the sharing of elective positions between the Accord Party and the APC in Osun State.
The governor, in a statement by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, described the reports as fabrications and fake news, insisting that the coalition arrangement was limited to the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in the January 16, 2027 presidential election.
He explained that ongoing efforts to resolve the local government crisis in the state were aimed at protecting the interests of both APC chairpersons and elected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmen and councillors, rather than sharing political offices.
“As the governor of all Osun indigenes and residents, we are working to resolve the local government matter by ensuring that all interests are protected and cared for. As of now, all stakeholders have agreed that restoring grassroots governance is a condition for our successful campaign ahead of the 2027 elections,” Adeleke said.
While assuring that the local government crisis would be resolved before the end of the year, the governor said he had not entered into any agreement to share legislative seats with the Osun APC, declaring that “what unites the coalition partners is only the presidential elections”.
“As I said while inaugurating the Presidential Campaign Council, the coalition is targeted at the presidential election. Partners agreed to join hands to ensure our dear president is re-elected. All other legislative positions are open for competition,” he said.
“I urge all political parties to campaign for their candidates, as I will do for Accord candidates. We have no deal on the National Assembly and the State Assembly elections. All our candidates will face the electorate, who have the final say,” the governor added.
