NDC discloses N8.529bn from nomination forms as Obi-Kwankwaso movement faults campaign council

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says it generated N8.529 billion from the sale of nomination forms, dues, levies and contributions from supporters in its first seven months, as the Obi-Kwankwaso movement questioned the party’s preparedness for the 2027 general election.
The party’s national treasurer, Peter Onigah, disclosed the figure on Monday in Abuja while presenting its financial statement at the third national executive committee (NEC) meeting.
The disclosure came a day after the NDC announced a 155-member presidential campaign council, a development criticised by the Obi-Kwankwaso (OK) movement, which faulted the timing of the announcement and questioned the party’s grassroots mobilisation capacity.
Onigah said the party spent N2.402 billion on political activities, including primaries, publicity, staff salaries and other expenses.
He said the disclosure reflected the party’s commitment to transparency and accountability, adding that a detailed breakdown of its transactions would be provided before the end of its first accounting year.
“We have been very prudent. Our shelf is made up of technocrats, people who are experienced and people who have different capacities,” Onigah said.
“As a new party, we don’t have people in government yet. All of us are outside the government. So, we need to contribute together and ensure that our party will prevail and achieve the desired objectives.”
Moses Cleopas, the NDC national chairman, said the decision to make the party’s finances public was a standard practice and not a response to what he described as frivolous allegations on social media.
