Uzodimma rejects Rainbow Coalition in Imo, backs Tinubu’s re-election
Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has declared that there is no Rainbow Coalition in the state, insisting that members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) must work together to secure President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Uzodimma spoke on Tuesday during the distribution of campaign vehicles under the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement in Imo State, where he warned members against working outside the APC.
“There is no rainbow coalition in Imo State,” the governor said, threatening to withdraw the vehicles distributed to members who worked outside the party.
“If I see you walk outside APC, I will collect the vehicle from you. You are here, you are empowered to work for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and our All Progressives Congress,” he said.
Uzodimma said the movement was aimed at publicising Tinubu’s achievements and mobilising support for his re-election, adding that his administration had assessed the President’s performance and decided to support his second term.
The governor commended High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, for providing resources and support for the movement, describing the group as a partner in the APC’s mobilisation efforts.
He urged members to support APC candidates in the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and governorship elections, insisting that the party had no alternative in Imo State.
Uzodimma’s remarks come amid disagreements between APC governors and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his Rainbow Coalition, which seeks to mobilise support for Tinubu across party lines while allowing members to back candidates from other parties in other elections.
APC governors have expressed concern that the arrangement could weaken the party’s candidates in 2027. Uzodimma, who chairs the Progressive Governors’ Forum, has previously criticised political arrangements he believes could undermine Tinubu’s re-election bid or weaken the APC.
