2027: Nigeria needs a builder, not a liquidator, says Adeyeye

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dayo Adeyeye, has urged Nigerians to re-elect President Bola Tinubu in 2027, describing him as a builder of national assets in contrast to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, whom he accused of favouring the sale of public assets.
Adeyeye made the call at a press conference on the state of the nation in Abuja on Monday, arguing that Tinubu’s administration was expanding Nigeria’s infrastructure and economic base rather than disposing of strategic national assets.
He criticised Atiku’s record as chairman of the National Council on Privatisation, citing the sale of public enterprises, including the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL), NICON Insurance and the Ajaokuta Steel Company.
“His (Atiku) only plan is to sell,” Adeyeye said. “As privatisation chairman, he sold NITEL, NICON, Ajaokuta — all died. Now he wants to sell NNPC and our new ports. This is how you diversify an economy — by building, not by selling it.”
The former Minister of State for Works said Tinubu had demonstrated a commitment to institution-building through his involvement in the formation of political parties and his record as governor of Lagos State.
“Tinubu built,” he said. “He built AD, built ACN, built APC. He built Lagos from N600 million to N51 billion IGR. He built a party, built a city, and is now building a nation.”
Adeyeye urged voters to choose continuity under Tinubu, arguing that the president’s policies were laying the foundation for long-term economic growth.
He cited developments in the maritime sector, including the establishment of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and plans for new deep-sea ports in different parts of the country.
