INEC pleased with Ondo voter registration turnout, says PVCs coming soon

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed satisfaction with the turnout of eligible voters during the just-concluded Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Ondo State, describing the process as peaceful and orderly across the state.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, stated this on Sunday while monitoring the final day of the phase three extension of the exercise, noting that the registration recorded impressive participation across the 18 local government areas.

Agboke attributed the successful exercise to INEC’s sustained voter education campaigns, advocacy efforts and the online pre-registration platform, which he said encouraged more eligible residents to register.

He noted that prospective voters continued to visit registration centres even after the official deadline, describing the development as evidence of the electorate’s eagerness to participate in future elections.

According to him, the level of commitment shown by registrants was encouraging, recalling that one prospective voter insisted on waiting until the close of the exercise to ensure he was successfully registered.

The REC reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to conducting credible, free and fair elections, adding that the commission would intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections after the Osun State governorship election.

He also disclosed that data collected from all phases of the registration exercise, including the extension period, would be harmonised before the printing of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Meanwhile, a 76-year-old resident, Evangelist Adegoroye Kayode, who visited the INEC office in Ondo West to transfer his voter registration following his relocation, was among those who participated on the final day of the exercise, which began on May 11 and officially ended on Sunday, July 26, with senior INEC officials inspecting registration centres across the Ondo Central and Ondo South senatorial districts.
