Ekiti State has been shortlisted among the top three contenders for the 2026 National Pension Award in recognition of its implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme.
The state is nominated in the category of State of the Year in the Implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme, placing it among the leading states in pension administration.
The National Pension Commission (PenCom) announced the nomination in a notification signed by the Acting Director of its States Operations Department, Akinsola Adeseun.
According to the commission, the recognition follows Ekiti’s efforts to adopt, implement and sustain the contributory pension system. It described the state’s pension administration as a model for promoting sustainability and protecting retirees’ financial future.
PenCom added that the nomination reflected the state government’s progress in pension administration and commitment to reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s pension system.
The recognition is a boost for Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration, which has prioritised the remittance of workers’ pension contributions and measures to safeguard their financial security after retirement.
The award is expected to recognise states that have demonstrated commitment to implementing the contributory pension system and improving pension administration.
PenCom said the winner would be announced at the award presentation ceremony scheduled for Thursday, October 29, 2026, at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
