The Ondo State Government has intercepted a vehicle carrying a substance suspected to pose environmental and public health risks.

The vehicle was stopped on Sunday, September 13, 2026, following information provided by a concerned resident who alerted authorities about its movement.

In a statement issued on Monday, the state Ministry of Environment reportedly kept the vehicle under surveillance before eventually intercepting it.

The driver, identified as Olorunwa Sunday, a Delta State indigene living in Oke-Aro, was subsequently handed over to the police for questioning.

According to the ministry, the driver claimed that a resident had hired him to dispose of the substance at any convenient location.

The government said samples of the material would be subjected to laboratory and chemical tests to ascertain its contents and establish whether it poses any threat to the environment.

The ministry added that the outcome of the analysis would determine further action, including possible prosecution under relevant environmental laws.

The government, through the ministry, reiterated its resolve to prevent unsafe disposal of substances and protect residents from environmental hazards.
