Three persons were burnt to death in the early hours of Friday following a violent collision between a passenger bus and a heavy-duty truck in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The fatal crash occurred near a filling station along the busy Okolowo axis, triggering a sudden inferno that engulfed both vehicles.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident happened when the truck, carrying bags of sawdust from the Shao direction, attempted to make a U-turn towards Okolowo.
In the process, a high-speed passenger bus carrying day-old chicks from Lagos to the northern part of the country rammed into the turning truck.
The violent impact immediately ignited a massive fire, leaving all three occupants of the bus trapped inside and burnt beyond recognition.
Emergency responders, including officers from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), arrived at the scene shortly after sunrise to evacuate the victims’ remains.
Confirming the incident on Friday, Kwara State FRSC Sector Commander, Kabiru Babatunde Kazeem, stated that officers had been deployed to secure the corridor.
However, full details regarding the identities of the deceased remain unavailable, as the sector commander had yet to issue an official final report at the time of filing this story.
