Who would stop Tinubu’s re-election bid? by Kola Amzat
Since his inauguration as the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu (GCFR) has delivered unarguably the most unprecedented and unrivalled governance Nigeria nation, and even, Sub-Saharan African countries have never experienced before in about four or five decades.
With uncommon courage and lion heart, he has moved to stabilize the nation’s currency against other key currencies through the policy of halting the regime of multiplicity of exchange rates, as well as bringing to a close the inglorious era of fuel subsidy, a policy that didn’t only turned many average oil & gas entrepreneurs to sudden billionaires, but, almost EMPTIED the nation’s foreign reserves account.
Of course, this audacious intervention of subsidy removal alone resulted in monthly savings that amounted to several hundreds of billions, the humongous resources now being made available on monthly basis through FAAC allocations to the three tiers of government, and particularly providing financial MUSCLE for sub-national governments to hugely strengthening infrastructures developments, education, medical & health facilities, digital innovations, and all other socio-economic developments within their jurisdictions.
With no iota of doubt, Tinubu has salvaged the nation’s economy from the state of prostrate and brink of collapse. The following indices succinctly lend credence to this assertion: the external reserves presently stood at $55 billion mark. Market capitalization has consistently been recording an exponential growth in the last one year, presently standing at about ₦165 trillion mark-an indication of the absolute trust and confidence of local & foreign investors being reposed on the nation’s economy.
The international Credit Rating Agencies like Fitch Agency and other key Agencies around the globe on Nigeria’s economy have soared considerably within the last couple of months.
In the education sector, more than one million Nigerian students in Tertiary Institutions have benefitted from the Education Loan Fund. On a related note, CreditCORP has significantly changed the fortunes of more than 3 million Nigerian Artisans, propelling them to compete in the competitive global market.
Instructively, the president has taken deliberate and calculated steps to genuinely reflect the federal structure of Nigeria.
This intentional and strategic initiatives includes: coming into existence of Local Government Autonomy Act; frantic efforts to move Police Force from Exclusive to Legislative List; Tax Reform Act already operational, as well as assent of the president to Power Reform Bill. And, of course, more are still on the way.
Without doubt, the president has remarkably delivered virtually on all his promises. In the last one or two years, he’s also ventured into other areas that were originally not integral part of the 7 Points Renewed Hope Agenda, all aimed at delivering dividends of democracy.
Meanwhile, 750 kilometers Lagos-Calabar Coastal road is steadily on-going and likewise, Badagry-Sokoto expressway project is presently moving at a faster pace.
There are the justifications for the hundreds of thousands of APC faithful and supporters who thronged Kaduna Stadium on Saturday with wholesome enthusiasm to welcome President Tinubu to the historic flag-off of the party’s electioneering campaign for the forthcoming polls.
They were just appreciative of the present administration’s remarkable accomplishments just within 3 years in office across the country, and particularly in their own North West geo-political zone where 348 kilometers roads have been completed, and frantic efforts are presently in progress to round up on other 1800 kilometers all spread across the zone alone.
On the historic Saturday that the campaign exercise was flagged off, the president commissioned Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road covering 81 kilometers of its 118 kilometers first section.
It’s already in the public domain that the president has also expressly directed the installation of Solar streetlights along 375 kilometers Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano corridor.
In response to about 60 years of yearnings of the North, the president created the Ministry of Livestock Development. On a related note, the North West Development Commission, hugely funded to finance strategic developmental projects has begun.
Just within 3 years of Tinubu administration, Federal Universities have been established in Mubi, Kachia and Kabo. To the credit of the present administration, Kano-Maradi’s very strategic rail infrastructures has been completed.
Modern Cancer Center has been put in place, this is in addition to the upgrading of dozens of Hospitals, and reconstruction of several schools and other Tertiary Institutions.
In all other geo-political zones-North Central, North East, South West, South South and South East, key developmental projects in all facets-roads, rails, ports, medical, digital initiatives, education, tourism etc are springing up with ease right, left and centre.
Indeed, Tinubu administration would go down in Nigerian history as the government that has not only heralded so many Tertiary Institutions in all nooks & crannies, but also provided huge funds to facilitate producing quality graduates capable of holding their own in the contemporary competitive global market. It’s also instructive that ASUU strike-hither to a sore spot in the country’s education sector has DISAPPEARED.
It’s also a thing of immense joy that the country’s image and brand in the eyes of the international community has improved tremendously, with countries around the globe desirous of entering business deals with Nigeria in all facets-oil & gas, power, infrastructural initiatives, solid minerals, agricultures, tourism, transportations, telecoms etc.
No other justifications other than the aforementioned have attracted all opposition governors, NASS members, and all other notable politicians across the country into APC, except the gregarious Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo state.
Even Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, the leading opposition figures are deeply conscious of the fact the president is too far ahead of them particularly with reference to being visionary, resourceful, emotional intelligence & maturity, focus, capacity to hold a diverse country as Nigeria firmly together, and more importantly, protecting and safeguarding the country territorial integrity.
They are also oblivious of the fact that if an election is conducted today, the president would have an UNASSAILABLE EDGE over them. And, the president still has the MOMENTUM even up till the day of election.
At this juncture, it’s important to re-emphasize to the opposition figures that the Nigerian presidency is not a tea party. It took about 20 years for this president to prepare for the historic journey that landed him in Aso Villa in 2023, and also about to present him the second term in office.
It’s about long term preparation. It’s about patience. It’s about doggedness; helicopter-view; courage; making people the centerpiece of governance.
In those 20 years, he was painstaking enough to be conversant with Nigerian people; the entrenched diversity; traditions & cultures; religions; traditional institutions, and more importantly, the peoples’ needs.
That’s why he has recorded many milestones just within 3 years in office.
This writer intends to stress to the leading opposition figures that they should in the interest of the nation, sheath their sword, change their approach of antagonism and disruptive tendencies, and move to collaborate with the president for a more prosperous Nigeria. Their present disposition of hatred, envy, jealousy and strife would not do. This disposition would not even halt the president’s re-election bid.
