Pan-African creative technology organisation, Africacomicade, has announced the commencement of its annual flagship event, Gamathon 2026, Africa’s premier convention for interactive and immersive media.
The week-long convention serves as a pan-African platform connecting digital creatives in video games, animation, comics and extended reality (XR) with training, mentorship, funding, recruitment and global market opportunities.
The 2026 edition, themed “Back to Our Roots”, is holding in Lagos, Nigeria, from October 26 to 31, and will continue in Nairobi from November 26 to 28. It features industry sessions, networking events, technical masterclasses, exhibitions and celebrations of African digital culture.
According to the organisers, this year’s edition aims to realign the sector with current realities while exploring future uncertainties by connecting participants with brands and studios shaping the future of digital entertainment on the continent.

The convention opened on Monday with an invitation-only industry dinner that brought together key stakeholders. The programme also includes the Women in Games Workshop and Mixer on Wednesday, followed by physical technical workshops and masterclasses with Unity on Thursday, October 29, and Friday, October 30.
The event will culminate in Industry Day on Saturday, October 31, featuring panel discussions, exhibitions and the premiere of a full-length documentary. The event’s business-to-consumer segment will allow members of the public to engage with industry players.
Other activities scheduled for Industry Day include showcases, a gaming tournament, a remote-control car racing tournament organised in partnership with Arena NG, with a prize of ₦50,000, and an after-party.

Studios and brands interested in exhibiting were invited to apply through the exhibitor form, which closed on October 11, 2026. Organisations and brands seeking sponsorship and branding opportunities were advised to visit the organisers’ website for further information.
