Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has said his administration has completed more than 650 kilometres of roads across the state, excluding 294 kilometres of tax credit-funded roads.

The governor spoke on Wednesday while flagging off the construction of the 21-kilometre Oke-Oyi/Lanwa Road, which spans Ilorin East and Moro local government areas, and the Oke-Ose/Maya Asunlope Road in Ilorin East Local Government Area.

According to him, the projects are aimed at improving connectivity, easing transportation and expanding economic opportunities for residents of the benefiting communities. He added that road infrastructure plays a vital role in supporting businesses and bringing opportunities closer to the people.

“With over 650 kilometres of roads completed (excluding the 294km tax credit roads) and additional projects in progress and in the pipeline, we are steadily improving the infrastructure that supports agriculture, commerce, investment, and economic growth,” he said.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony at Oke-Ose, AbdulRazaq reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in roads and other critical infrastructure, stressing that economic prosperity depends on deliberate and sustained development efforts.

The governor, who was accompanied by the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Salihu Yakubu Danladi, was received in both communities by traditional and religious leaders. The community leaders commended the administration for its commitment to rural development and improved relations between the government and residents.

The Baale of Oke-Oyi, Mallam Soliu Abdulkadir, and the Alangua of Oke-mi, Mallam Suleiman Ibrahim, separately described the projects as evidence of the government’s commitment to inclusive development. Ibrahim said his community had long awaited a motorable road, dating back to 1981, describing the project as the fulfilment of a longstanding aspiration.

Similarly, the spokesman for the Oke-Ose community, Alhaji Suleiman Aremu, praised the governor for improving access to basic infrastructure and pledged the community’s continued support for the APC-led administration. He described the Oke-Ose/Maya Asunlope Road project as “incredibly unique” in the history of Oke-Ose and neighbouring communities. Participants at the event also received free blood pressure checks.
