FG begins 2027 budget preparations, targets presentation before December
The federal government has commenced preparations for the 2027 budget, with plans to submit the proposal before the end of 2026.
The Minister of State for Budget, Doris Uzoka-Anite, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
“We are working on the 2027 budget, and our intention is to present it before the end of the year,” the minister said.
The planned presentation would enable the National Assembly to begin consideration of the proposed fiscal framework ahead of the 2027 financial year.
The annual budget sets out the government’s revenue projections, expenditure plans and priority programmes for the coming year, including allocations to infrastructure, security, education, healthcare and other critical sectors.
Early presentation of the proposal is expected to provide lawmakers with time to scrutinise the estimates and deliberate on the government’s spending priorities before the new fiscal year begins.
The government has yet to disclose the proposed size of the 2027 budget, its projected revenue, deficit estimates or specific allocations to ministries, departments and agencies.
