Fashola urges APC leaders to unite, woo new voters ahead of 2027
Former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola has urged leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Southwest to resolve internal differences and unite ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Fashola made the appeal at the APC Southwest Zone Stakeholders’ Engagement held at Providence Hotel in Lagos, where he outlined the party’s plans to strengthen its structures across the region.
He said the engagement was part of efforts to meet with party leaders in each state, understand their challenges and address issues affecting the party’s operations at the local level.
According to him, issues that could be resolved by the zonal leadership would be handled directly, while those requiring national intervention would be escalated to the appropriate authorities.
Fashola stressed the need to respect the peculiarities of politics in each state, noting that the party intended to work with existing structures and accommodate different political interests in the region.
He also called on party members to put aside grievances and work together, urging those who appeared better positioned politically to embrace aggrieved members in the interest of the party’s electoral success.
The former governor further emphasised the importance of attracting more voters, saying the party had room to improve its performance in the last three presidential election cycles. He urged leaders to engage newly registered voters, particularly those who had never participated in an election.
Fashola also urged the party to reconnect with previous voters who had become less enthusiastic, stressing that every vote and every form of support would be crucial in the next elections. He said the zonal leadership would hold separate state-level meetings to discuss local issues in greater detail.
